MotoGP champion Marc Marquez had jokingly said that the road-legal Honda RC213V-S prototype was his own road bike, made ‘just for him’, though it was quite clear that Honda was going to produce the prototype in limited numbers. Now, a Japanese newspaper has reported that the motorcycle will go into production this year, and will carry a price tag of 20 million yen (Rs 1.03 crore).
Honda had first unveiled the production version of the RC213V-S at last year’s EICMA Show in Milan, Italy. Powered by a 1.0-litre V4 engine, the RC213V-S is identical to the company’s MotoGP prototype in every way. It also gets MotoGP electronics, suspension and even the component quality and construction used in the two motorcycles is similar. The dry clutch from the MotoGP bike has been replaced with a wet clutch, while the noise of the exhaust has been brought down to acceptable levels. Though Honda has refused to divulge any technical details, power is expected to be somewhere in the 200hp region.
Honda had displayed two RC213V-S models at the EICMA Show, one donning the Japanese flag’s colours while the other completely engulfed in carbon, and it isn’t clear which of these models Honda will put into production. Whichever livery Honda chooses, the RC213V-S will definitely be one hot collector’s item and we expect it to sell out in no time.
