Royal Enfield has acquired Harris Performance for an undisclosed sum. The UK-based motorcycle design and engineering company has previously worked with Royal Enfield to develop the Continental GT.
Under this new acquisition deal, Royal Enfield will acquire all assets, employees, trade names, technical know-how and intellectual property of Harris Performance. The current staff at Harris Performance will become employees of Royal Enfield and will be responsible for the performance and engineering development of Enfield's new range of motorcycles. They will be based out of Royal Enfield’s upcoming technology centre in United Kingdom.
Harris Performance on their official website claims to be the only manufacturer in UK to have been officially commissioned by Yamaha and Suzuki to design, develop and manufacture race bikes for Grand Prix and World Superbike. Previously, the UK-based company worked with Royal Enfield to develop the chassis of the Continental GT Café Racer. While the bike didn’t manage to do well in the Indian market, the single down-tube frame didn’t fail to impress us. This acquisition will play an important role in Royal Enfield’s future growth where it plans to develop two engine platforms – 250cc and 750cc. We are expecting more than one product to be developed on each platform.
"Royal Enfield is working on its new generation of products and platforms; to have the Harris Performance team dedicatedly working with us will clearly enhance our engineering and product design capabilities," said Siddhartha Lal, CEO, Royal Enfield.
