Royal Enfield has updated the Classic 350 Redditch edition with dual-channel ABS. The addition of the safety net has increased the price of the bike by Rs 4,000 and it now comes for Rs 1.51 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). There are a few other motorcycles you can buy in this price range. Let’s take a look at them.
The Redditch edition gets trendy colour options (red, green, blue) for the fuel tank which lends it a modern touch. However, Royal Enfield also has the Thunderbird 350X with the same modernity and blacked out components and funky colour options. Similar to all the bikes in RE’s 350cc family, this is powered by a 346cc, air-cooled motor that produces 19.8bhp and 28Nm with a five-speed gearbox. The Thunderbird 350X comes for Rs 1.56 lakhs. Put Rs 12,000 more and you can have the Bullet 500 with a bigger motor and old-school styling. It gets a 499cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that churns out 26.1bhp and 40.9Nm of torque.
Royal Enfield also has an adventure motorcycle, the Himalayan, at Rs 1.67 lakhs which is suitable for touring as well as off-roading. This is powered by a 411cc, air-cooled, single cylinder engine that makes 24.5bhp and 32Nm. At just Rs 1,000 more, UM has the Renegade Sports S which is a modern cruiser with a 279.5cc, liquid-cooled mill that is good for 24.8bhp and 23Nm.
The competition in the modern-classic segment has now become fiercer with the comeback of the Jawa bikes. The company has launched two models, Standard and Forty Two, priced at Rs 1.64 lakhs and Rs 1.55 lakhs, respectively. Both are powered by the same 293cc, liquid-cooled engine that churns out 27bhp and 28Nm.
Moving on to more modern machines in this segment, the Mahindra Mojo UT300 is a tourer with streetfighter styling. With a price tag of Rs 1.53 lakhs, it gets a 294cc, liquid-cooled mill that pumps out 22.5bhp and 25.2Nm. Those looking for a more aggressive streetbike, the KTM 200 Duke makes for a good option with its high-revving 199.5cc, liquid-cooled, 24.6bhp, 19.2Nm motor. You can have it for Rs 1.59 lakhs. Now, there is only one full-faired bike in this segment – the Honda CBR250R which can be a good touring machine. Powering the Honda is a 249.6cc, liquid-cooled powerplant with the power figures of 25.7bhp and 22.9Nm. It costs Rs 1.66 lakhs.
