The Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus is scheduled to be launched in India on 30 May and will be limited to 250 units.
The Pegasus shares its underpinnings with the standard Classic 500 although gets additional bits to make it exclusive. The bike is inspired by the Royal Enfield RE/WD 125 or ‘Flying Flea’ that the British military used in World War II. The Pegasus will be offered in two colour schemes for global markets- ‘olive green’ and ‘service brown’. However, India will only get the brown colour.
It also gets blacked out rims, headlamp bezel, exhaust and engine although the crank case cover is colour coordinated. To further justify its ‘limited edition’ tag, the Pegasus comes equipped with brown handlebar grips, a leather strap with brass buckles on the air filter box and a set of canvas panniers as standard. Each bike also gets a unique serial number stencilled on the side of the tank.
Mechanically the bike remains the same as its host bike. It is powered by a 499cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that puts out 27.2bhp and 41.3Nm of torque. This unit is mated to a five-speed gearbox. The bike, similar to the Classic 500 gets disc brakes on both ends and misses out on ABS.
While pricing of the bike is yet to be revealed, we can expect it to cost a premium of Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 over the standard bike which retails at Rs 1.88 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
