- Likely to be launched towards the end of February or early March
- Price announcement was expected to take place this month
- To be positioned below the Super Meteor 650
Royal Enfield was expected to launch its new twin-cylinder offering, the Classic 650 in India in January 2025. However, as per our dealer sources, it has been postponed and the price announcement will take place towards the end of February or early March. Select dealers have already started unofficially accepting bookings for the bike.
The Classic 650 was unveiled at the EICMA show in Milan in November last year. A couple of weeks after that, it was expected to be launched in India at Motoverse in Goa. However, that didn’t happen because, perhaps, RE wanted the new Goan Classic 350 to have all the limelight at Motoverse. In the company’s portfolio, the Classic 650 will sit below the Super Meteor 650 and very close to the Shotgun 650. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 3.40 - 3.50 lakh, ex-showroom.
The Classic 650 shares its chassis with the Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650 but there are subtle differences, mainly in terms of geometry and kerb weight. Tipping the scales at 243kg, the Classic is 2kg heavier than the SM650. Powering the bike is the same 648cc, parallel-twin engine that does duty on other 650cc RE offerings. It comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch and produces 46.3bhp and 52.3Nm. While the Classic 650 comes with a single seat from the factory, it can be fitted with a pillion seat by installing the bolt-on sub-frame which is identical to the Shotgun.
