-Based on the Super Meteor 650
-To be available in four colours
-Prices to be announced a few weeks later
Royal Enfield has taken the wraps off the new Classic 650 at the EICMA show in Milan. The motorcycle is essentially based on the Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650 but gets a host of elements that are unique to it. The modern-retro offering will be available in four colour options including Teal, Vallum Red, Bruntingthorpe Blue, and Black Chrome and the prices will be announced a few weeks later.
The motorcycle looks almost identical to the Classic 350, save for multiple components that look bigger and more substantial. The round headlamp with a tiny beak, tiger lamps, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and round fender have all been made to identical to the 350. However, the twin exhaust pipes, wider rear fender, and a bigger fuel tank make it look slightly distinctive. On the feature front, there’s a semi-digital console with a Tripper navigation that looks identical to the unit present on the Classic 350. Other features include a USB charging port, full-LED lighting, adjustable levers, and dual-channel ABS.
The chassis and headstock have been retained from the SM650 and Shotgun. However, the Classic 650 rides on a 19-18-inch spoke wheel combination, just like its 350 sibling. The 43mm Showa telescopic forks have been designed specifically for the biggest Classic. While the rear springs are the same units as those on the Shotgun, the damping characteristics are different. With a kerb weight of 243kg, it's the heaviest bike in Royal Enfield's portfolio.
Powering the bike is the same 648cc, parallel-twin engine that does duty on other 650cc RE offerings. It comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch and produces 46.3bhp and 52.3Nm. While the Classic 650 comes with a single seat from the factory, it can be fitted with a pillion seat by installing the bolt-on sub-frame which is identical to the Shotgun.
