Royal Enfield has launched the Continental GT in a new GT black colour. The new paint scheme hasn’t affected the price of the café racer and the Continental GT continues to retail at Rs 1.91 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The Continental GT was launched in India in late 2013 and is Royal Enfield’s fastest and lightest production motorcycle ever. Built on a double downtube chassis, the Continental GT is radically different from the company’s other motorcycles. It is powered by a re-bored version of the Classic 500’s UCE engine, which in its 535cc guise produces 29.1bhp and 44Nm of torque. The engine also gets a remapped ECU to suit its café racer character and is mated to a five-speed transmission.
Until now, the Continental GT used to be available in two paint schemes – GT yellow and red. Despite being the first of its kind in the Indian market, the Continental GT failed to generate large volumes. The Chennai-based manufacturer recently revealed its intent of setting up two development centres, one in Chennai and one in the UK. The company has ambitious plans of launching motorcycles based on completely new platforms with the aim of increasing its sales Europe and America.
