Royal Enfield will launch the Continental GT aka Café Racer in UK next month. This makes the UK the first market to get this motorcycle since it was showcased in 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The company decided to launch it in UK to tap global customers in mid-range motorcycle segment and have already been selling other range of motorcycles through MotoGB distributor.
"The Continental GT will be launched in the UK in September. This is a product for the global audience and is one of the big steps we are taking to be a global player in the mid-sized segment," said Siddharta Lal, CEO & MD, Eicher Motors.
The Chennai based manufacture confirmed to launch the Continental GT in India in October. Few weeks ago, the company started manufacturing motorcycles in their new plant in Oragadam, Chennai. The new facility is spread across 50 acres has been built with an investment of Rs 150 crore. It can produce 1.50 lakh units in a year that can be later ramped up to 1.75 lakh motorcycles towards the end of this year. The facility also features a 1.4 km test track and dynamometer.
However, the company doesn’t see a drastic decrease in the waiting periods which is currently averaging at even months because of increasing demand for their products.
