Royal Enfield’s line-up will include an electric motorcycle in the near future. The company confirmed that it is working on an electric platform along with two new BS-VI platforms.
While there is no specific launch timeline, we can expect to see a concept by 2021. As with all electric vehicles, the Royal Enfield electric motorcycle too will have an explosive amount of torque. While we can expect the design to be in tune with Royal Enfield’s classic-inspired cruiser the famous engine thump will go on mute.
The market is gradually turning towards electrification and Royal Enfield would want a share of that market too. The Government is also pushing manufacturers towards developing electric vehicles. Apart from the electric motorcycle, the manufacturer is also working on two other motorcycles that will replace current products to meet BS-VI norms. With the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 already complying with the BS-VI emission norms, we expect the Classic and Thunderbird range to be updated.
Royal Enfield recently launched the Thunderbird 350X and Thunderbird 500X in the Indian market. The bikes will soon be followed by the 650cc twins in the country.
