Royal Enfield is eyeing various international markets including South East Asia and Latin America to expand its international business. This is an important step for the company as it is aiming to become a big player in the mid-sized motorcycle segment in the world.
The company recently launched the most awaited Café Racer, the Continental GT in the India market. Royal Enfield claims that this particular model has given them confidence and the belief to do well in the global markets. The 250cc-7500cc bike segment size in India is around two lakh units and Royal Enfield has majority of the shares and globally it’s around eight lakh units per annum.
"We believe the mid-sized motorcycle segment is between 250cc and 750cc, so that's the space we want to play in as Royal Enfield. We believe that this market is totally under-served. We believe the market is going to move up from small bikes to mid-segment...Nobody is focusing on this segment, so that is the market we want to get into at global level," said Siddhartha Lal, MD & CEO Eicher Motors.
