Royal Enfield recently debuted its second 450cc bike, the Guerrilla 450. It is based on the brand’s Sherpa 450 platform and is a roadster model. Now, the Guerrilla 450 has a few rivals including the Hero Mavrick 440. So, we pitted both bikes today on paper and here is what each has to offer.
Design
The Guerrilla 450 is a thoroughbred neo-retro offering in terms of its design. It gets a round LED headlight, a wide tubular handlebar with optional bar-end mirrors, a scooped single piece seat and an integrated setup for the tail light and the turn signal. On the other hand, the Mavrick appears comparatively compact and simpler than the Guerrilla 450. However, both motorcycles look appealing.
Features
Royal Enfield has equipped the Guerrilla 450 with LED illumination, and a TFT screen with smartphone connectivity. The latter gives you access to navigation via Google Maps, call and SMS alerts, and more. It also gets dual-channel ABS. On the other hand, the Mavrick also features LED illumination, dual-channel ABS, a fully digital instrument console and smartphone connectivity. However, some of the said features are exclusive to the top-spec models of the two bikes.
Engine
As mentioned earlier, the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 uses the Sherpa motor. It is a 452cc, liquid-cooled motor that makes 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 40Nm at 5,500rpm. It is linked to a six-speed gearbox. The Hero Mavrick shares its platform with the Harley-Davidson X440 and uses the same engine as well. It is powered by a 440cc, air and oil-cooled engine. It makes 27bhp at 6,000rpm and 36Nm at 4,000rpm and is linked to a six-speed gearbox. It’s evident that the Guerrilla 450 is more powerful than the Mavrick and also uses a more modern setup.
Hardware
Royal Enfield has equipped the Guerrilla 450 with gaitered telescopic front forks and a monoshock whereas the Mavrick uses USD front forks and dual rear springs. Both bikes use a front and rear disc brake setup with alloy wheels but the Guerrilla gets wider tyres than the Mavrick. For reference, it uses a 120-section front and 160-section rear unit compared to the Mavrick’s 110 front and 150-section rear tyre.
Price
The asking price for the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is set at Rs. Rs. 2.54 lakh for the Flash variant. It comes with all the bells and whistles and is the top-spec model you can purchase. Meanwhile, the Hero Mavrick 440 retails at Rs. 2,24,000 for the Top trim (both ex-showroom, Delhi). Although the Hero offering costs less, it comes with notably less power and smaller proportions compared to the Guerrilla. Apart from that, it seems an even game between the two.
