-To debut on 17 July
-Gets the Himalayan’s 452cc, single-cylinder engine
The Royal Enfield Guerrilla has been partially revealed in the run up to its official launch. The street naked is based on the Himalayan 450's platform. It ushers in a new chapter in the company’s history as it forays into the 400-500cc, roadster segment.
A close look at the production-spec bike reveals the LED headlight that looks identical to the one seen on the Himalayan. One can also spot the telescopic fork with the gaiters, LED turn indicators and the offset position of the instrument cluster. This could be a LCD unit or the TFT display as seen on the Himalayan.
It will be powered by a 452cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 39.47bhp at 8,000rpm and 40Nm at 5,500rpm in the Himalayan. Royal Enfield may tweak the engine’s state of tune and possibly the gearing to suit the performance and rideability of a roadster.
The bodywork comprises a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, slim side panels and a stubby tail section that is very similar to the one seen on the Himalayan.
Under the bodywork is a frame that is , you guessed it, the Himalayan’s. It is suspended by a telescopic fork as mentioned and a preload adjustable monoshock. The bike rides on what looks like a pair of 17-inch alloy wheels shod with block-pattern tyres. Braking duties will be taken care of by a disc brake at the front and rear.
Expect Royal Enfield to throw in a bunch of features such as LED lights, dual-channel ABS and a Bluetooth connectivity enabled instrument cluster.
Royal Enfield is expected to position the Guerrilla 450 in the same ballpark as the Triumph Speed 400 which is priced at Rs. 2.33 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi and it will debut on 17 July.
