Royal Enfield has commenced deliveries of the BS IV-compliant version of the Himalayan. The motorcycle has been priced at Rs 1.84 lakhs, and features a few technological and cosmetic changes over the older BS-III model.
Visually, the new Himalayan gets a blacked-out fuel cap and the handlebar mount. It also gets auto headlamp on (AHO) feature to comply with government regulations. At the heart of the Himalayan is the same 411cc single-cylinder oil-cooled engine. However, fuelling is now taken care of by a closed loop fuel-injection system. The output has remained unchanged, and the Himalayan delivers 24.5bhp and 32Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed transmission. Disappointingly, Royal Enfield is not offering ABS on the Himalayan, even as an optional extra.
We expect Royal Enfield to have taken care of the quality issues that had plagued the older model. With the new updates, the Himalayan is pricier than the older bike by Rs 20,998. With this price tag, the Himalayan competes against the Bajaj Dominar 400 and the KTM 250 Duke.
