The new BS-IV-compliant version of the Royal Enfield Himalayan was spotted at a dealership in Kerala. Apart from a fuel-injection system, the new model also features some cosmetic changes.
The visual updates for the new Himalayan include blacked out fuel cap and the handlebar mount. It also gets auto headlamp on (AHO) feature. While the Himalayan retains the 411cc single-cylinder oil-cooled engine, fuelling is now taken care of by a closed loop fuel-injection system. The output has remained unchanged, and it delivers 24.5bhp and 32Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed transmission.
Royal Enfield had temporarily suspended sales of the Himalayan post the industry’s move to BS-IV emission norms. Now however, Royal Enfield dealers have started accepting bookings for the Himalayan for a token amount of Rs 5,500. Deliveries expected to commence in September. The new Himalayan is expected to be around Rs 9,000 more expensive than the carburetted model. However in the duration that the motorcycle was off sale, the Himalayan has already accumulated a waiting period stretching from two to six months in some cities.
