We always suspected that the Royal Enfield Himalayan was destined for export as well as domestic consumption, but there never was any official confirmation... until now. Arun Gopal, head of international business at RE, confirmed that the Himalayan will be sold in the UK at a press conference at EICMA in Milan.
It will launch during spring next year for the UK market, and it will have a few changes to help it meet Euro 4 regulations. Among those changes are an automatic-on headlamp, ABS, different tyres, and of course, fuel injection. This is in line with what will be required by the Indian market in the next two years - the ABS, automatic headlamp and fuel injection will all become requirements by 2018 to meet various Indian regulations - so it makes sense for Royal Enfield to test the waters of the European market. The Himalayan will be projected as a no-frills, rugged alternative to the small-capacity adventure motorcycles that will be on sale in the EU market like the BMW G310 GS and Kawasaki Versys-X 300.
