- Royal Enfield issues recall of over 15,000 units
- Himalayan, Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 affected
- Recall only in specific countries
Royal Enfield has issued a recall for the Himalayan, Interceptor 650, and Continental GT 650 in the UK, Europe, and Korea.
The recall affects 15,200 units of the three models and addresses an issue with the corroding of the brake caliper. This corrosion comes from long-term exposure to riding on certain roads which are made from certain salts or a combination of salts that prevent ice formation during winters. According to the manufacturer, it could lead to ‘unusual braking sounds, increased brake drag, and may impact braking action’.
Royal Enfield will be contacting customers and conducting inspection, cleaning, and replacement of the part if needed. However, in a later stage, the caliper assemblies on the affected motorcycles will be replaced with an improved part before the end of 2020.
This recall does not affect any Royal Enfield motorcycle sold in India. In other news, the manufacturer has begun operations at its plants and opened dealerships across the country, and is expected to launch the Meteor 350 soon.
