Royal Enfield has finally launched the Himalayan at a price of Rs 1,55,545 (ex-showroom Maharashtra) and on-road Mumbai it will cost you Rs 1,78,872. With this pricing, the Himalayan now sits between the Classic 350 and the Classic 500 in Royal Enfield’s line-up.
Marketed as a multi-purpose motorcycle, Royal Enfield wants the customer to have the Himalayan as their only bike. And we agree to this because we recently rode the motorcycle around Shimla, where we took the bike off-road as well as on tarmac and the Himalayan performed really well. Adventure junkies who’ve been waiting for an adventure motorcycle can now have an option with Royal Enfield.
The Himalayan is powered by a 411cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 24.5bhp at 6500rpm and peak torque of 32Nm at 4000-4500rpm. This engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox. Talking about its braking department, the Himalayan gets a 300mm single Bybre disc with twin-piston calliper in front and a 220mm disc with single-piston calliper at the rear. Unfortunately, ABS isn't offered with the bike even as an option, but it is likely to receive it in the future. The suspension duties of the bike is taken care of by 41mm telescopic forks at the front with 200mm travel and a monoshock in the rear. The bike rides on a 21-inch 90/90 CEAT tyre in the front and 17-inch 120/90 tyre at the rear.
Royal Enfield is offering the Himalayan in two colours – snow white and granite black. Other than this, there’s a couple of accessories exclusive to the Himalayan. The bookings for the Himalayan has begun and deliveries will commence as early as next month.
