Royal Enfield has launched the Himalayan in Delhi at Rs 1.73 lakh (on-road). The announcement comes close on the heels of the Delhi Transport Department agreeing to allow registration of BS-III compliant two-wheelers in the capital city.
Given the high levels of pollution in Delhi, the transport department had decided to stop registration of new two-wheelers which aren’t BS-IV compliant, post April 1. This meant that new models like the Suzuki Access 125, Bajaj V15 and the Himalayan, which are just BS-III compliant, weren’t permitted to be sold in Delhi. However, this roadblock has now been temporarily removed and the transport department has agreed to allow registration of these models, starting today.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan is an adventure touring motorcycle, purpose-built to tackle the harshest of terrains. Built on a new duplex split cradle frame, the Himalayan is powered a 411cc single-cylinder oil-cooled engine which delivers 24bhp and 32Nm of torque. Apart from Delhi, the Himalayan has also been launched in Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune.
Speaking about the new motorcycle, Mr Rudratej Singh, president, Royal Enfield said, “We are delighted to announce the availability of our latest motorcycle - Himalayan, in New Delhi. We are very confident that with its simple design and versatile performance, the Himalayan will inspire confidence amongst the amateur motorcyclists. At the same time, seasoned riders will appreciate the motorcycle’s purpose-built features and attributes in terrains that have inspired the Himalayan.”
