Royal Enfield today took the wraps off its first ever adventure touring motorcycle, the Himalayan. Based on a completely new platform, the multipurpose Himalayan takes a no-nonsense approach which prioritises function over form. While the Himalayan hasn’t been launched yet, we did get a closer look at this exciting new motorcycle. Check out the detailed photo gallery of the Royal Enfield Himalayan -

The Himalayan is underpinned by a new duplex split cradle frame, which encloses a 411cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine.

This newly developed carburetted LS410 engine delivers 25bhp and 32Nm of torque through a five-speed gearbox.

While this output might seem inadequate for a 182 kilogram motorcycle, the engine has been tuned to offer ample torque in low revs.

While the absence of modern technology might make it look obsolete, it should make the Himalayan a very easy to maintain motorcycle.

The 220mm ground clearance, long travel suspension and the tyres make the Himalayan an ideal bike to tackle all kinds of rugged terrains.

The Himalayan gets a 300mm disc brake for the 21-inch front wheel and a 240mm disc brake or the 17-inch rear wheel.

Despite the bike’s tall appearance, the rider sits just 800mm above the ground, which is similar to the seat height of the Classic 350.

The handlebars, seat and the footpegs have been designed to offer a tall and upright riding position, perfect for an adventure tourer.

The fuel tank can gulp up 15 litres of fuel, though the frame beside the tank gets mounting points to accommodate jerry cans for additional fuel.

The instrumentation integrates a speedometer, fuel gauge, odo meter, trip meters, temperature gauge, service interval indicator and a compass.

The Himalayan is offered with a host of optional accessories like hard and soft panniers, jerry cans and even a protective riding gear range.

As of now, Royal Enfield has started accepting bookings for the Himalayan. It will be available in two paint schemes - granite and snow.
