Royal Enfield had unveiled their Himalayan online, with a series of promotion videos. From their testing to the development phase. One controversial video of the series which shows the rider’s footpeg snapping off as the bike lands after a jump has been taken down by Royal Enfield.
In the video, Indian Dakar veteran CS Santosh who helped Royal Enfield develop the motorcycles is taking the motorcycle through a series of jumps on rough terrain. During one of the jumps the video still of the moment shows the rider’s right foot off the peg, and the peg falling off the 410cc adventure bike's steel cradle frame. The next still also shows the footpeg hitting the ground behind the motorcycle. After landing the rider looks down to where the peg should be and his right leg was away from the Himalayan.
Royal Enfield faced a barrage of criticism on Facebook and YouTube and so the company posted a response saying, 'This testing proved to us that if you land from a jump that's 6ft above ground, the footpeg could break, so we made it better and did it all over again and again before we broke out with the Himalayan.'
On being asked about the taking down of that particular video, a Royal Enfield spokesman said that it was always a plan to take the video down and replace it. Smart comeback, RE.
