Royal Enfield will head into New Zealand with the launch of the Himalayan sometime this year. The dealerships are expected to be set up soon to prepare for deliveries. The adventure motorcycle will be the first of its kind in the country.
The marketing of the motorcycle will be overseen by Australia-based Urban Moto Imports, Regional Sales Manager, Dale Schmidtchen. He says the all-surface focus of the Himalayan, and its long travel suspension and robust crash-proofed design will open up the Royal Enfield brand to a lot of new customers.
The Himalayan is what Royal Enfield call an ‘all-rounder’ motorcycle built on an all new platform It is a 411cc adventure motorcycle which was partly developed in the United Kingdom. The motorcycle brings a series of firsts for the brand. It goes by a purposeful design language. Minimalistic styling and has no fancy curves and creases. The motorcycle comes in white or black with a neat Himalayan graphic running across the centre of the motorcycle. The Himalayan is powered by a 411cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine which produces 24.5bhp at 6500rpm and peak torque of 32Nm at 4000-4500rpm. This engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox.
Royal Enfield currently has growing sales numbers in India and are having difficulty meeting the demand. However, the New Zealand market will have a predetermined number of motorcycles to be exported. Which means, Royal Enfield should not have any trouble meeting the demand in New Zealand.
