Royal Enfield is all set to launch the Himalayan on March 16 in Mumbai. Touted to be the biggest motorcycle launch of 2016, the Himalayan is the first adventure motorcycle to be built in India. Over the last couple of years, there’s been a significant increase in long distance travelers. However, they used to do it on a motorcycle that was not designed to take broken terrains. And the bikes made to take all these beatings are expensive and out of reach for most. Royal Enfield will exploit this gap with an affordable adventure motorcycle.
Unveiled just a day before the 2016 Auto Expo, the Himalayan has been built around a new twin downtube cradle frame. Co-developed with Harris Performance, this new chassis has been designed for both on and off road use. Powering the Himalayan is a new 410cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 24bhp and 32Nm of peak torque. Gearbox is a five-speed unit. Royal Enfield had focused a lot to keep the Himalayan as light as possible and that’s why we see a minimalistic design approach.
Talking about the price, we’re expecting the Himalayan to be priced around Rs 2 lakh on-road. Stay tuned to BikeWale as we get you the first ride review of the Royal Enfield Himalayan next week.
