The Royal Enfield Himalayan will be launched tomorrow; the ‘all-rounder’ motorcycle is expected to be priced below the two lakh rupee mark. The Himalayan is built on an all new platform from Royal Enfield. It is a 411cc adventure motorcycle which was partly developed in the United Kingdom. The motorcycle brings a series of firsts for the brand.
Royal Enfield is marketing the Himalayan as a multi-purpose motorcycle and the only motorcycle one should have at home. For the Himalayan, Royal Enfield has finally equipped its bike with overhead cams, rather than using the traditional push rod architecture. It is powered by an all-new 411cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 24.5bhp at 6500rpm and peak torque of 32Nm between 4000rpm and 4500rpm. This engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox.
The adventure motorcycle features a 300mm single Bybre disc with twin-piston calliper in front and a 220mm disc with single-piston calliper at the rear. Although, it currently misses out on ABS, it is likely to receive it in the future. It also has 41mm telescopic forks at the front with 200mm travel and a monoshock in the rear. This is the first Royal Enfield to get a monoshock. The bike rides on a 21 inch 90/90 tyre at the front and 17-inch 120/90 tyre at the rear.
The simplistic looking motorcycle will be available in two colour options – snow white and graphite black. Early bird bookings are likely to get the motorcycle in a couple of weeks, others will have to be part of a waiting period.
