Royal Enfield Himalayan to be unveiled on February 2

Amidst all the rumours and speculative stories, Royal Enfield has announced that the Himalayan will make its global debut on February 2. While Royal Enfield is not going to be a part of the 2016 Auto Expo, it seems like the company is planning to hog the limelight by unveiling the highly anticipated motorcycle just a day before the biennial event.

The minimalistic styling and the high ground clearance of the Himalayan is in tune with its off-road character. The motorcycle’s chassis, which is based on the Continental GT’s frame, has been modified to adapt to the Himalayan’s character. The instrument cluster is made of a three-pod console, which displays an odometer, trip meter, gear position indicator, temperature gauge, clock, tachometer, fuel gauge and a compass.

Though the company has so far been tight-lipped about the powertrain, the Himalayan is expected to be powered by a 410cc single-cylinder engine. The engine has been developed in conjunction with Austrian component manufacturer, AVL. Mated to a five-speed transmission, the engine is expected to crank out around 32bhp and 41Nm of torque.

We can expect Royal Enfield to offer a host of optional touring accessories like hard box panniers, hand guards and jerry cans along with the Himalayan. While it would be difficult to pinpoint the exact price of the Himalayan, given its niche nature, we can expect it to be priced around Rs 2 lakh. With such a price tag, the Himalayan will share the market space with the KTM Duke 390 and the Benelli TNT 300.
