- Will be based on the current Interceptor 650
- To be powered by a 648cc twin-cylinder engine
- Likely to be named the Sherpa 650
Among the multiple middleweight motorcycles that Royal Enfield is currently working on, one of them is the Interceptor 650-based Scrambler 650. It has been recently spotted at a petrol station and the new spy shots reveals a close image of the bike.
In one of our previous stories, we reported that Royal Enfield is likely to name it the Sherpa 650. It appears to be slightly smaller than the current 650s that are on sale, owing to its Scrambler profile. The bodywork is a tad rugged and it’s also equipped with an oval plate that doubles down as the side panel. The test bike seen here is equipped with a smaller exhaust and a single-piece floating seat as well.
Royal Enfield will use the same 648cc twin-cylinder motor for the Scrambler 650, as it does with the current lineup. The output is likely to be around 47bhp and 52Nm. The engine will be linked to a six-speed gearbox. However, the exhaust routing is slightly different and there’s only one canister here.
Its hardware setup, as seen above consists of USD front forks and dual rear shocks whereas the braking hardware includes a front and rear disc brake with dual-channel ABS. The setup is mounted on spoked wheels wrapped in off-road-ready tyres. We expect Royal Enfield to equip the bike with an LED headlight and twin pod instrument console including the Tripper Navigation.
Royal Enfield is likely to launch the Sherpa 650 in India sometime in early 2024. It’ll be positioned between the Interceptor 650 and the Super Meteor 650.
