Round 1 of the fourth edition of the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup 2024 recently concluded at the Madras International Circuit, Chennai on 24 and 25 August. The highlight of this edition is the inclusion of the new ‘Twin Power Trophy’ Championship which involves a professional being paired with a rider from the Amateur category to make the overall racing event more interesting.
The new category is aimed at helping amateurs enhance their knowledge and skills under the guidance of professionals. Simultaneously, it should also help the latter amplify their understanding of racing strategies and techniques by adopting a mentorship role. In the new ‘Pro-Am’ format, the pair of Navneeth Kumar and Johnson Saldhana are currently on top of the leaderboard followed by the Kayan Zubin Patel-Johring Warisa duo in the second position.
Round 1 comprised two races, at the end of which Anish Shetty and Navaneeth Kumar S clinched their spots on top of the leaderboard holding 18 points each in Professional class. In the Amateur category, Yogesh P is leading the competition with 20 points with Nijin A following with 12 points. Going forward, the second and third rounds of the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup 2024 are scheduled to take place in September and November, respectively.
