Continuing its stellar performance in the domestic market, Royal Enfield registered a 26 per cent jump in domestic sales in February 2018. The Chennai-based manufacturer sold 71,354 motorcycles in the last month as opposed to the 56,737 units it had managed to sell in the corresponding month, last year.
The sub-350cc motorcycles continue to make up a major chunk of the volumes, while the bigger capacity motorcycles have also been returning decent numbers. The Classic 350 by itself makes up for more than 70 per cent of the sales in the range. Last month, the company launched the Thunderbird 350X and 500X in a bid to attract the urban youth. Before the end of this year, it will be launching the new middleweight parallel-twin motorcycles going up against Harley-Davidson and Triumph.
While the domestic sales numbers continue to grow consistently, Royal Enfield has now been focussing on expanding its business in other global markets. However, the export numbers recorded a measly one per cent growth, with the company shipping off 1,723 motorcycles to international markets. Overall, the company’s sales in February grew by 25 per cent.
