This is not an April fool’s joke. Royal Enfield did manage to record its highest sales ever in March 2017. The company sold 60,113 units last month, registering 17 per cent overall growth.
While the company has increased its exports considerably over the last few months, the domestic market contributes the maximum sales. The Chennai-based manufacturer sold 58,549 bikes in March 2017. Exactly a year ago, the company sold 50,059 bikes. The exports grew by 24 per cent at 1564 units as against 1261 units in the corresponding month last year.
The Bullet-maker managed to sell 6,51,107 units in the last financial year – that’s a whopping 31 per cent growth. The strong sales is due to the huge demand for the Classic 350. The company never reveals its model-wise sales, but close to 70 per cent of the overall sales for Royal Enfield comes from the Classic 350. Its last launch – the Himalayan – failed to get the required numbers, but the company is hoping to sell more of it in the new financial year.
Royal Enfield was able to clear its BS-III stocks, thanks to the strong demand for its bikes. The company started dispatching the BS-IV compliant bikes almost a month before the regulation was supposed to kick in.
