Royal Enfield has registered a growth of 69.9 per cent for the second quarter of this financial year. The Chennai-based two-wheeler manufacturer sold 81,977 motorcycles in the past quarter, helping it achieve a cumulative sales figure of 2,20,377 for the current calendar year.
In order to cope with the rapidly growing demand for its motorcycles, Royal Enfield recently announced its intent of setting up a new manufacturing plant, about 10kms from its existing facility in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu. For now, the company has also been slowly increasing the production capacity at the Oragadam facility to meet the demands of customers. The facility currently has a annual capacity of 3,00,000 units, which will be increased to 4,00,000 units by next year.
Speaking about the company’s success and future plans, Mr. Siddhartha Lal, MD and CEO, Eicher Motors Ltd. said, "At Royal Enfield, we have set our sights on becoming the leaders in global mid-sized motorcycling segment and we are working towards it persistently. While we continue to ramp up capacity at our Oragadam plant month on month; we have recently acquired a 50 acre plot in Vallam Vadagal, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu.”
Despite the increase in capacity, Royal Enfield motorcycles currently demand a waiting period stretching from 30 days to 90 days, in major cities. With a view to expand its presence in other global markets, Royal Enfield organised several events in the US and Europe and also made an appearance at the Goodwood Revival festival, in UK.
