Royal Enfield reports a 41% decline in overall sales in March 2020

- Domestic sales fell by 44%

- Exports witnessed a 33% growth

- BS4 inventory cleared ahead of the original deadline (31 March 2020)

Royal Enfield has announced its sales data for March 2020. The Indian two-wheeler manufacturer reported a 44% decline in year-on-year numbers, registering 32,630 unit sales in March 2020 as against 58,434 units in the corresponding month last year. The exports, on the other hand, soared by 33%, and the company reported 3,184 unit sales in the last month as against 2,397 units in March 2019.

The overall sales performance saw a 41% fall in numbers, and Royal Enfield sold 35,814 motorcycles in March 2020 as against 60,831 vehicles in the corresponding month last year. The year-to-date performance, too, showed similar results and the company witnessed 18% fall in domestic sales while reporting an 89% growth in exports.

Speaking about the sales performance, Vinod Dasari, CEO at Royal Enfield said that it has been a challenging year for the industry. While the industry currently continues to face headwinds, the company is confident that there will be a slow and steady recovery in the long-term.

Last month, Royal Enfield had announced that it successfully cleared the inventory of BS4 motorcycles across dealerships. The company is offering only BS6 motorcycles from 21 March 2020. The production has been stopped temporarily due to the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic that has led to a nationwide lockdown until 14 April 2020.
