Royal Enfield has hiked the prices of its motorcycle range in India to offset the impact of GST. While the 350cc range gets a marginal price hike, the rest of the range has become pricier by up to Rs 3,800.
With the implementation of GST, motorcycles and scooters have seen a drop in taxes levied on them from 30 per cent to 28 per cent. However, motorcycles above 350cc have been put in the same category as luxury means of mobility like yachts and private jets. As such, they attract an additional cess of three per cent, bringing the total tax up to 31 per cent.
Royal Enfield’s 350 range is actually powered by 346cc powertrains, which means they don’t attract the 31 per cent duty. As such, the price hike is less than Rs 500. The rest of range on the other hand, has received a significant price hike of up to Rs 3,800. This is applicable for the Bullet 500, Thunderbird 500, all variants Classic 500 and the Continental GT. The Himalayan meanwhile, has been temporarily discontinued and is expected to go on sale in July. The revised prices have been implemented post 1 July.
