The new Royal Enfield Scram 440 has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 2.08 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The scrambler is available in two variants – Trail and Force. Both trims differ from each other in cycle parts and appearance. Let’s take a look at both the variants in detail.
Trail
As the name suggests, the Trail variant is more off-road focused and has conventional spoke wheels with tube-type tyres. This should make it more abuse-friendly on trails and off-road sections. This trim is available in two colours: Trail Blue and Trail Green. Both colours feature a matte finish and look rather uninspiring.
Force
Meanwhile, the range-topping Force variant is the more touring-friendly version, with alloy wheels wrapped in tubeless tyres. This should make it a practical tourer, which wouldn’t warrant the rider to find a dedicated shop in case of puncture. This variant is available in three paint schemes: Force Blue, Force Grey, and Force Teal.
Regardless of the type of wheels, both variants ride on a 19/17-inch combination. The Scram 440 gets a bigger and more powerful 443cc air/oil-cooled engine that develops 25.4bhp at 6,250rpm and 34Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm. This long-stroke motor is linked to a six-speed gearbox.
Royal Enfield has also offered more features on the Scram 440. The motorcycle gets an LED headlight, switchable dual-channel ABS, an improved front brake for a better initial bite and stopping power, and a pull-type clutch for a lighter clutch action. Royal Enfield is also offering an optional top box as an accessory that can be mounted on the rear parcel rack, which has a payload capacity of 10kg.
