- Features a new 443cc single-cylinder engine
- Gets a six-speed gearbox
- Retains styling from the Scram 411
Royal Enfield has taken the wraps off another model in its lineup and this time is the Scram 440. Now, this is not an entirely different model since it is based on the previously available Scram 411. However, the bike, as its name suggests, gets a larger capacity engine. It is a 443cc single-cylinder motor that makes 25.4bhp and 34Nm and is mated to a six-speed gearbox.
With the introduction of these changes, the Scram 440 should be able to suffice in the areas where the Scram 411 fell short. For reference, we expect the Scram 440 to have better grunt at the higher rev range and legs for long-distance riding at slightly higher speeds without the motor feeling strained. The addition of the sixth gear is likely to result in a change in the overall gear ratio as well.
Apart from that, the Royal Enfield has retained a majority of the bodywork for the Scram 440 from its previous 411 iteration. So, it gets the same round headlight but now an LED unit with a plastic cowl around and topped by a single dial setup. It contains all the necessary readouts like the speedometer, odometer, tripmeter, and more. The bike now comes with switchable ABS, a revised chassis for an additional 5kg payload to mount a top box, a lighter clutch, and a revised front brake.
The hardware on the Scram 440 comprises telescopic front forks and a monoshock at the rear whereas the braking duties are done by a front and rear disc. The setup is mounted on a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheel wrapped in tubed CEAT road-biased tyres. You also get an option for alloy wheels with tubeless tyres. The spoke wheel model is called Trail whereas the alloy wheel variant is called Force.
Royal Enfield is offering the Scram 440 in five colours - Force Blue, Force Grey, Force Teal, Trail Green, Trail Blue.
