Royal Enfield has updated its modern classic cruiser, the Thunderbird 350 with ABS (anti-lock brake system). The motorcycle is now priced at Rs 1.54 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai) which is a hike of around Rs 5,000 over the non-ABS trim. If you want a differently styled modern-classic bike, Royal Enfield itself has an alternative in the form of the Classic 350. It comes in three variants - standard, Gunmetal Grey and Signals edition priced at Rs 1.30 lakhs, Rs 1.48 lakhs and Rs 1.61 lakhs, respectively. These are powered by a 346cc, air-cooled engine that produces 19.8bhp and 28Nm. The same engine powers the Thunderbird 350X too, which is a modern version of the standard bike. However, for those looking for a bigger engine, the Royal Enfield Bullet 500, at Rs 1.68 lakhs, gets a 499cc, air-cooled motor that is good for 26.1bhp and 40.9Nm. RE also caters to the adventure enthusiasts with the Himalayan that employs a 24.5bhp/32Nm developing, 411cc, air-cooled motor. It is priced at Rs 1.67 lakhs.
While the modern-classic segment was majorly ruled by Royal Enfield, Jawa recently made a comeback after years of hiatus. Its portfolio consists of the Jawa standard and Forty Two priced at Rs 1.64 lakhs and Rs 1.55 lakhs, respectively. Both are powered by the same 293ccc, liquid-cooled mill that churns out 27bhp and 28Nm. This engine is derived from the Mahindra Mojo’s 22.5bhp/25.2Nm, 294.7cc, liquid-cooled mill whose UT300 variant retails at Rs 1.53 lakhs.
The UM Renegade Sport S comes for Rs 1.68 lakhs which is yet another example of a modern cruiser. Powering the bike is a 279.5cc, liquid-cooled mill that makes 24.8bhp and 23Nm. Moreover, if one wants to go cruising in a sporty way, the Honda CBR250R is a comfortable, full-faired bike which is propelled by a 249.6cc, liquid-cooled motor that is good for 25.7bhp and 22.9Nm. Finally, the aggressive streetfighter of this segment is the KTM 200 Duke ABS whose 199.5cc, liquid-cooled mill pumps out 24.6bhp of power and 19.3Nm of torque. It carries a price tag of Rs 1.59 lakhs.
