Royal Enfield is planning to increase their production capacity beyond 1,50,000 motorcycles per annum by 2014. Currently, the company is setting up a new plant near Chennai which will be operational within next two months and has the capacity to produce 1,50,000 motorcycle in a year.
"With our new plant at Oragadam (near Chennai) coming on-stream within the next few months, in 2013 we will have a total combined capacity of 1,50,000 units. We are already working to increase it beyond that by 2014," said Siddhartha Lal, managing director & CEO Eicher Motors Ltd.
However, the company didn’t disclose on how much they are planning to invest for the additional capacity. Once the new plant is operational, the company is hoping to decrease the waiting period which currently ranges from six-eight months.
