- Pays tribute to the Royal Enfield RE/WD 125 from WWII era
- Limited to 1,000 units worldwide
- 250 units earmarked for India
Royal Enfield has unveiled a special edition Classic 500 model, christened as the Pegasus. Produced in a limited run of just 1,000 units worldwide, the Classic 500 Pegasus harks back to the Royal Enfield RE/WD 125 which served the British troops during World War II.
The RE/WD 125, also called as the 'Flying Flea’, was a lightweight 125cc two-stroke motorcycle, capable of being deployed behind enemy lines via parachutes. It served as a mode of transport for the forward units of the Airborne Pegasus unit. Although the Classic 500 Pegasus doesn’t exhibit any of the lightweight character, it does get touches like canvas saddlebags, the Pegasus coat-of-arms on the tank and the Royal Enfield badging from that era. It also gets brown handlebar grips and a leather strap with brass buckle across the toolbox.
Internationally, the Classic 500 Pegasus is available in two matte colours - olive green and brown, although the 250 units sold in India will be available only in the latter. Each motorcycle comes with a unique serial number on the tank. The Classic 500 Pegasus has been launched in the UK for GBP 4,999 (Rs 4.57 lakhs). In India, we expect it to be sold through Royal Enfield’s official website through an online sale over the next few weeks.
