Continuing its stellar performance in the domestic market, Royal Enfield registered a 36 per cent jump in domestic sales in May 2016. The Chennai-based manufacturer sold 47,232 motorcycles in the last month as opposed to the 34,615 units it had managed in the corresponding period, last year.
While the domestic sales numbers continue to grow consistently, Royal Enfield has now been focussing on expanding its business in other global markets. It is not just the domestic market that has been kind to Royal Enfield, as the export market also brought in good news for the company. Royal Enfield shipped off 1,372 motorcycles to its global markets in the last month, which is 86 per cent more than it sold in May 2015.
The sub-350cc motorcycles continue to make up a major chunk of the volumes, while the bigger capacity motorcycles have also been returning decent numbers. The Classic 350 continues to occupy the top spot, followed by Standard 350 and the Thunderbird 350. Even the Himalayan has gotten off to a good start and currently demands a waiting period stretching from 30 days to 90 days.
