The Himalayan is an all new platform from Royal Enfield. It is a 411cc adventure motorcycle which was partly developed in the United Kingdom. The motorcycle brings a series of firsts for Royal Enfield but missed out on one major development that is the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). It now seems the Indian motorcycle company is working on resolving that issue.
An Anti-lock Braking System or Anti-skid Braking System is an automobile safety system that allows the wheels on a vehicle to maintain traction on the road surface according to rider inputs while braking, preventing the wheels from locking up (ceasing rotation) and thus avoiding uncontrolled skidding. ABS for the Himalayan is still in the early stages of development. Furthermore, Royal Enfield will only introduce the safety feature if the Indian market require it.
The Himalayan weighs only 182kgs, which means the 300mm disc at the front and 240mm disc at the rear performs well, but just like the other bikes, locks up the rear wheel in slush. The addition of ABS would not the let the wheel lock up and help it handle the rough terrain its built for.
