Now, there could be a respite for motorists and pedestrians alike. Samsung India’s new smartphone J3 comes with an app for motorcyclists. So no more phones being swung out of the pocket while riding and riders trying to precariously balance a phone between the helmet and their face.
The Samsung J3 features an S bike mode, which has to be activated at the beginning of a ride. Once it’s activated, any caller trying to reach the Samsung Galaxy J3 user will be notified through an automated answering machine that the user is riding and cannot take calls so that the ride remains uninterrupted. The smartphone comes with a Near Field Communication (NFC) tag that can be attached to the bike’s fuel tank or rider’s helmet. The rider just needs to tap it once in order to activate or deactivate it.
Interestingly, the S bike mode makes sure the rider is not distracted and does not feature notifications of the incoming call. In case one absolutely must take a call, the caller may press 1 which allows urgent calls to go through. There’s also a motion lock feature that ensures that if the rider wants to take an urgent call, the rider will need to stop the bike to answer the call. So no riding and talking.
The Samsung J3 is priced at Rs 8,990 and is sold only through Snapdeal.com. This new feature seems to be pretty helpful and interesting, but we’ll be testing it out for you soon. Stay tuned.
