The scooter segment in India has performed better than the motorcycle for the seventh year running. However, the highest selling vehicle in the two-wheeler market is still the Hero Splendor.
A report from the Hindustan Times suggests that while the first spot has been taken by the Splendor, the battle for second place (where our report is focussed) has now been finalised as the Honda Activa, which has beaten the Hero Passion by selling 1.67 million units as compared to the motorcycle’s 1.45 million units. The report also says that the scooter market experienced a whopping 23 per cent year-on-year growth as compared to the motorcycle market’s rather dismal three per cent growth.
This was bound to happen given the sudden increase in demand for scooters in the last one year with over 65 per cent to 70 per cent demand coming from metro cities and not surprisingly Tier-II cities.
