- Smaller R18 rumoured to be under development
- October unveil likely
A few months ago, we talked about a rumour coming in from Germany. It was about BMW Motorrad’s plans of developing a smaller R18. It looks like this rumour has just got a bit stronger.
According to a report, this smaller R18 will target the A2 countries and could be unveiled to the world as early as October 2021. A2 licences let younger riders with age below 21 years ride big motorcycles but with lesser power output. A2-compliant bikes cannot make more than 95bhp in their unrestricted state and are capped at 48bhp in its restricted state. The BMW R18 makes 91bhp, so it won’t be a difficult affair for BMW to develop a A2-complaint bike.
But the interesting bit here will be how the brand manages to overall weight of this motorcycles. The R18 is one large bike and has incredible road presence. So it will be interesting to see if the German brand tinkers with it to make it A2-compliant.
We are expecting this motorcycle to make its debut either at Intermot or EICMA show this year. And yes, this model won’t come to India.
