- Yamaha XSR125 could be in the works
- To be based on the MT125 and R125
- Will be launched only in the European markets initially
Online reports suggest that Yamaha is working on the smallest 125cc iteration of its neo-retro offering, the XSR. A type-approval document of the XSR125 has been found on the internet that reveals its performance numbers and dimensions. It will initially be launched only in the European markets.
The pictures of the Yamaha XSR125 are yet to be revealed. But it is likely to feature a design identical to its bigger sibling, the XSR155 that’s available in several Asian markets. The 155cc version borrows most of its components from its fully-faired and naked iterations, the YZF R15 V3 and MT15, respectively. Similarly, even the XSR125 will be based on the same platform as the R125 and the MT125.
As per the type approval document, the 125cc, single-cylinder engine of the baby XSR produces 15bhp of power and 11.5Nm of peak torque. This is identical to power figures registered by the MT125 and R125. Other cycle parts like the diamond frame, upside down forks, monoshock and braking hardware might remain the same as the XSR155. The only difference will reportedly be the 10mm taller height of the XSR125.
Regardless of the popularity of the XSR155 in India, bikes belonging to this series won’t land on our shores anytime soon. Instead, Yamaha is prepping to launch the FZ FI street bike-based FZ X retro-styled offering in India.
