- Production ready Storm 125 spotted
- Gets steel wheels, drum brakes
- Official launch in the next few days
Aprilia’s soon-to-be launched scooter, the Storm 125 has been spotted for the first time in a production form. This 125cc scooter will be officially launched in the next few days, and will be priced at Rs 65,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).
Interestingly, the spotted Storm 125 was equipped with steel wheels and drum brakes. But according to our sources, the Italian maker will launch the alloy wheel and CBS equipped disc brake model in India first. The steel wheels and drum brake variant is ready, but won’t be launched anytime soon.
The Storm is a variant of the SR125 with cosmetic changes. It gets matte-finish colours with different decals, different wheels, and tyres that are ever so slightly off-road biased. It helps to give it a butch character. In essence, the Storm is targeted more towards the male audience where the appeal of the regular SR125 is universal.
The Storm 125 gets its power from a 9.5bhp 125cc single-cylinder motor. This motor churns out a peak torque of 8.2Nm, transferring power to the rear wheel via a CVT gearbox. Like the SR150, the SR125 is built on a tubular steel frame. A telescopic fork at the front and a single coil spring at the rear makes up for suspension duties while braking is done by a 220mm disc at the front and a 140mm drum at the rear. It shares the all-analogue instrumentation with the standard SR125.
At the current price point, the Storm 125 competes with the Honda Grazia and the Honda Activa 125. Both these Hondas have been underperforming since the last few months. So it will be interesting to see if the Aprilia Storm 125 will make a bigger dent in Honda’s sales.
