Suzuki recently launched the BS6-compliant version of the Access 125 in India. The pricing of the scooter starts at Rs 64,800 (steel wheels, drum brake) and goes up to Rs 69,500 (special edition). Yamaha has recently entered the burgeoning 125cc scooter segment with the new Fascino 125. While the ‘125’ suffix clearly reveals a hike in its displacement over the 110cc model, it has also received several other updates. The design has been majorly altered with the scooter flaunting curvier and longer body panels now. It also gets a few added features such as a silent engine starter, side stand engine inhibiter and an auto start-stop function. This segment also comprises of the sportier and more rugged-looking Aprilia Storm 125. While it retains the same edgy styling of the SR 125, the presence of smaller 12-inch wheels shod with dual purpose tyres and bold graphics lend it a distinctive appeal. It also packs a fairly peppy 125cc motor which is BS6 compliant now. However, the Storm 125 remains quite basic in terms of features while it is also deprived of a front disc brake, which is not offered even as an option.
The hardcore environmentalists can opt for the Okinawa Praise Pro electric scooter which is the brand’s flagship offering. It is powered by a 72V/45Ah lithium-ion battery which takes less than two hours to get fully charged. It also delivers an impressive range of around 80km while the attainable top speed is 70kmph. What’s more, the Praise Pro also comes equipped with a host of modern features.
Yet another electric scooter in this space is the Ampere Zeal. While it is on par with the Okinawa Praise Pro in terms of features, it gets a comparatively smaller 60V/30Ah lithium-ion battery which deliver a range of around 75km. Moreover, it also has a longer charging time of around five hours. As for its top speed, the Ampere Zeal can go up to 55kmph.
For those considering a motorcycle priced similar to the Access 125, Hero MotoCorp has the Splendor iSmart 110 which was the first BS6 two-wheeler launched in India. With the BS6 update, the commuter has received a refreshed styling along with other mechanical changes such as a new diamond frame, longer suspension travel, higher ground clearance and longer wheelbase. Moreover, it also gets a larger 9.5-litre fuel tank along with a brighter headlamp setup. Powering the BS6 Splendor iSmart is a 110cc, fuel-injected motor which produces 9bhp and 9.89Nm, which is hike of 0.89Nm over the BS4 model.
Lastly, for the riders who prefer a bigger-looking motorcycle with a larger engine than the Splendor, the Bajaj Pulsar 125 is the bike to go for. Although it is powered by a 124.4cc powerplant, the styling is identical to its 150cc sibling incorporating a bold bikini fairing, muscular fuel tank and a long and sleek tail section. Furthermore, it also borrows the semi-digital instrument cluster and LED position lamps from its elder sibling, which makes it further desirable.
