Suzuki Access 125 CBS vs Honda Activa 125 – Competition Check

The country’s highest selling 125cc scooter, the Suzuki Access 125, is now available with a combined braking system (CBS), a safety feature that has been offered in the Honda Activa 125 since ages. We take a look at how the new Access 125 CBS stacks up against the Activa 125.

Design

Both the Access 125 and the Activa 125 are pegged as family scooters, so the overall design is quite elegant and conservative. However, both get eye-catchy cues to give them a modern appeal. In case of the Access 125, it is the paint schemes with contrasting seat and the chrome-rimmed headlamp that give it a trendy look. The highlight of the Activa 125’s design is the chrome accent and the LED DRLs bordering the turn indicators on the apron.

The front fender and the certain body components on both the scooters are constructed out of metal to give them a sturdy feel. The seats are long, wide and plush and make the scooters comfortable to sit on. The Access 125’s instrument console looks retro and basic, although it does get a small digital display. The Activa 125 also gets an analogue speedometer with a digital display, although the latter is bigger and integrates the fuel gauge too.

Engine

At the heart of the Access 125 is a 124cc single-cylinder engine delivering 8.6bhp and 10.2Nm of torque. The Activa 125 gets a 125cc engine which is marginally down on horsepower at 8.5bhp, although the torque output is higher at 10.5Nm. Both the engines are offered with CVT transmissions.

Cycle parts

Both the Access 125 and the Activa 125 ride on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear wheel setup with tubeless tyres. The base variants get steel wheels and a front drum brake, although only the Activa 125 gets CBS as standard. The top-of-the-line variants of both the scooters get alloy wheels and a front disc brake and CBS as standard. They ride on telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock.

Pricing

The CBS system will now be offered as standard on the disc variant of the Access 125. It is priced at Rs 58,980, which is just Rs 630 pricier than the disc variant. The Activa 125 range starts at Rs 58,081, although you only get drum brakes and steel wheels for this price. For the variant featuring alloy wheels and a disc brake, you will have to shell out Rs 62,644. All prices are ex-showroom.
