- Prototype version to be shown in Tokyo
- It will be a demonstration project
- Production version might be unveiled next year
Suzuki is all set to showcase the electric version of the Burgman Street 125 at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 which will be held from 26 October to 5 November in Tokyo. The company has clarified that this will be the prototype version of the scooter, meant for demonstration only, thereby affirming that the final product might be slightly different.
As stated by the brand, this will be a 125cc equivalent electric scooter. So, we can expect the acceleration and top speed to be similar to the petrol-powered Burgman Street 125 that is sold in India. It will be facilitated with a battery-swapping feature provided by Gachaco, a Japan-based battery-swapping consortium involving Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Suzuki. Through the demonstration project of Burgman Electric, Suzuki intends to accumulate data related to the usage pattern of people using such two-wheelers and utilise it for the future development of electric motorcycles.
Notably, the Burgman electric is already listed on Suzuki’s Japanese website. Barring a few distinctions, it looks almost identical to the ICE Burgman Street 125 available in India. As per the information released about the e-Burgman so far, it will be powered by a 4kW motor with a maximum torque output of 18Nm. Also, the battery range, which is said to be 44km, isn’t very impressive. However, we expect the final product to have a longer range and better motor specifications. Typical of electric scooters, it might certainly have a lot of modern features like smartphone connectivity options and security aids.
We expect the production version of the Suzuki Burgman Electric to be globally unveiled sometime next year followed by its India launch later.
