Suzuki has struck gold with the new Access 125. Sales have been rocketing ever since it was launched in 2016, and it has now become the third highest selling scooter in India. While the Access 125 is a family scooter, Suzuki now plans to attract the youth with its new 125cc offering based on the same platform – the Burgman Street. But how will it stack up against the Honda Grazia?
Design and features
Both the Burgman Street and the Grazia have been styled like maxi-scooters. The Burgman Street borrows its name from the Burgman, a 640cc maxi-scooter, and even borrows the major styling cues from it. The edgy front apron gets an LED headlamp setup and turn indicators along with a transparent windscreen on top. The digital instrument cluster has been borrowed from the Gixxer.
While the Burgman has the look of a luxury scooter, the Grazia looks sportier. The creases on the front apron and side panels give it an aggressive look. Even the Grazia features an LED headlamp. As for the instrument cluster, the Grazia gets two digital displays. Both the Grazia and Burgman Street feature a front pocket with cell phone charger.
Engine
Both the Burgman Street and the Grazia are closely matched when it comes to the engine. Both get 125cc air-cooled single-cylinder engines. The Burgman Street is marginally more powerful at 8.6bhp while the Grazia produces 8.5bhp. We do not see a reason why the Burgman Street will get a different state of tune as compared to the Access 125, and so it is sure to be exciting to ride. The Grazia on the other hand, has been tuned to extract good efficiency with the ‘fun’ factor getting a lower priority.
There is hardly any difference in weight, and both tip the scales at around 110 kilograms. Both the Burgman Street and the Grazia ride on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear alloy wheels, and get the option of a front disc brake with combi-brakes.
Pricing
The Grazia disc brake variant is priced at Rs 62,505 (ex-showroom, Delhi). While Suzuki hasn’t announced the prices for the Burgman Street, it will demand a slight premium over the Access 125. As the Access 125 disc brake variant retails at Rs 58,350, we expect the Burgman Street to be priced between Rs 60,000 and Rs 65,000.
