- Currently in its early testing phase
- Could use replaceable battery tech
- Likely to be launched in Japan with battery sharing service
Electric mobility could be a force to be reckoned with and all the major as well as new two-wheeler manufacturers are adopting it. Suzuki, meanwhile, has also been testing its likely-to-be-the-first EV, the Burgman Electric. The Japanese brand has listed the ‘e-Burgman’ on its official website, and here’s what we know about it.
The upcoming e-Burgman looks identical to its petrol counterpart. From the swanky maxi-style bodywork comprising a sporty fascia with butch side panels to the hardware – telescopic front forks and a front disc brake setup – the e-Burgman is heavily based on the current model. However, with the altered weight distribution caused by the addition of an electric motor and battery, it could get dual rear shocks.
From the information on Suzuki Japan’s website, we’ve learned that the e-Burgman’s current test model is powered by a 4.0kW (maximum output) motor. It is linked to a replaceable lithium-ion battery with 44km of range when the scooter is ridden at a speed of 60kmph. Yes, the range is quite low, but fret not, Suzuki is currently using this format for testing purposes on its home turf. It also plans to set up charging stations in partnership with Gachao and will evaluate the usage of swap stations throughout Japan. Other details, like the dimensions, have also been revealed. The e-Burgman weighs 147kg and gets a seat height of 780mm.
To conclude, the upcoming Suzuki electric scooter is still in its testing stage, but the development seems to have progressed a fair amount. We expect Suzuki India to make an official announcement in the near future.
