Suzuki is optimistic of selling one lakh units of its new ‘street sport’ motorcycle, the Gixxer, in this financial year. Atul Gupta, Executive VP, sales and marketing, Suzuki, said that there is a huge demand for the Gixxer in Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala and that the company has already received 3,000 bookings within 15 days of the motorcycle’s launch.
Suzuki expects its market share to nudge northwards from the current 11 per cent in scooters and one per cent in motorcycles and is aiming to increase its market presence in the world’s largest two-wheeler market to one million units in the next three years. The company’s current annual sales number stand at four lakh units.
Suzuki currently has around 630 touch points across the country which includes 330 dealerships. It plans to increase this number to 1,000 by March, next year, of which 600 would be dealerships.
The Japanese manufacturer currently has a limited presence in the Indian market, with just three scooters and two motorcycle models in its portfolio. The company does have plans of expanding into other segments and is keen on tapping into the lucrative market by bringing out youth-centric products.
