A Japanese magazine has released a new rendering of what seems to be the new GSX-R250/Gixxer 250. Fuelled by the success of the Gixxer in India, rumours of Suzuki’s plans to introduce a more powerful version of the 155cc motorcycle have been doing rounds of the internet for quite some time. This rendering now gives us a faint idea of how this new quarter-litre motorcycle might look like.
The new quarter-litre motorcycle is expected to be based on the same single downtube chassis with the engine as a stressed member. The styling is quite different from that of the Gixxer SF, and seems heavily influenced by the bigger Suzuki GSX-R models. The engine is expected to churn out over 25bhp and will be mated to a six-speed gearbox.
While the rendering shows the motorcycle to be fully feature-laden, we can expect Suzuki to ditch the LED lights and a few other features to keep the bike’s pricing competitive. However, we can expect the bike to retain clip-on handlebars and rear set footpegs to offer a sporty riding position. The suspension setup of the Gixxer 250 seems identical to the standard Gixxer, though the rendering has added a rear disc brake to the motorcycle.
Though the Japanese manufacturer has so far refused to comment on these rumours, the Gixxer 250 will reportedly be unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo. It will compete with other entry-level sportbikes like the Honda CBR 250R, KTM Duke 390 and the Yamaha YZF-R3.
